Kamla Bhandari intimidates her family members - her husband Kailash, her eldest son Suraj, and her adopted daughter - with her aggressive manner. She only shows her affection for her youngest son Vicky. Kamla wants to marry Suraj to Poonawala's daughter, but he falls in love with the village beauty Shalu, whom he marries despite Kamla's plans. Shalu realizes very quickly that there is no place for her in Kamla's house and that her mother-in-law only dreams of getting rid of her. Soon Shalu is accused of theft and leaves the house because she is threatened with arrest.
