Björt Ólafsdóttir

Björt Ólafsdóttir (born March 2, 1983 in Biskupstungur ) is an Icelandic politician ( Björt framtíð ). She was Iceland's Environment Minister ( Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources ) in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) . She has been the leader of her party since November 25, 2017.

In the 2013 general election in Iceland , she was elected as a member of the Althing national parliament for the constituency of Reykjavík-Nord . She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Iceland and an M.Sc. in Human Resource Management from Lund University . From 2011 to 2013 she was chairwoman of Geðhjálp , a non-profit organization that supports people with mental disorders. She has been a member of Parliament's Committee on Economic Affairs and Trade since 2016, before that she was a member of the Committees on Welfare and Commercial Affairs.

Since January 11, 2017, she has succeeded Sigrún Magnúsdóttir as Environment Minister in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) , which consisted of members of the Independence Party and the Viðreisn and Björt framtíð parties .

In the parliamentary elections on October 28, 2017 Björt framtíð was unable to win any more seats in the Althing, with which Björt Ólafsdóttir also lost her seat in parliament.
