Sigrún Magnúsdóttir

Sigrún Magnúsdóttir (born June 15, 1944 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician ( Progress Party ) and has been Environment Minister in the Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson cabinet since December 31, 2014, and in the Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson cabinet since April 7, 2016 .

Sigrún Magnúsdóttir has a long career in political and economic organizations. From 1982 to 2002 and since 2008 she was on the board of the Progress Party. She was a member of the Reykjavík City Council from 1986 to 2002 and was Vice-Chair of the Reykjavík Port Authority from 1994 to 2002. From 1991 to 1995, she was vice-chairman of the Icelandic Commercial Association. From 2001 to 2004 Sigrún was chairman of the committee for the establishment of a maritime museum in Reykjavík, which she then headed from 2005 to 2011. She is married to the former Icelandic Minister of Social Affairs Páll Pétursson .

Since the Icelandic parliamentary election on April 27, 2013 , Sigrún was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík-Nord . She was group leader of the Progress Party from 2013 to 2015 . On December 31, 2014, she took over the Icelandic Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources from Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson , who had held this post at the same time as that of Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture.

Sigrún Magnúsdóttir had announced that he would not run for the general election in Iceland in 2016 . It was last on the Progress Party's list for the Reykjavík-South constituency. Her successor as Environment Minister in the Bjarni Benediktsson cabinet (2017) was Björt Ólafsdóttir ( Björt framtíð ).
