Bjørg Vik
Bjørg Vik (born September 11, 1935 in Oslo ; † January 7, 2018 ) was a Norwegian writer and playwright who has significantly influenced the women's movement and feminist literature in Norway.
life and work
Bjørg Vik attended the Academy of Journalism in Oslo in 1955 and then worked for the newspaper “Porsgrunn Dagbladet” for five years. In 1963 she made her debut with the book Søndag ettermiddag (Sunday Afternoon) . It contains stories about “women's fates, which are often told from the perspective of another woman who initially has little understanding for such fates, but gradually begins to show solidarity with them contre cœur ”.
In 1971 Vik co-founded the women's magazine "Sirene", which until 1983 was a feminist alternative to the usual weekly magazines in Norway .
Vik has written numerous plays, including To akter for fem kvinner (Two acts for five women) . The play lives primarily from the conversations of the five friends who tell each other their lives, with the author depicting the frustrations and missed expectations of the women. It should also make men more aware of the situation of women. The play was not only discussed intensively by women's groups and was very successful in Norway; it was also filmed for television in 1976 and performed in other countries.
The volume of short stories Kvinneakvariet (Das Frauenaquarium) , published in 1972, is considered to be one of her best works . In it Vik
“ Female crisis situations in different phases of life as well as the search for an adequate way of life, the gender conflict has receded into the background. "
Vik lived in Porsgrunn . She was married and had three children. It has been nominated three times for the most important award of the Northern European countries, the Nordic Council's Literature Prize. Her works have been translated into numerous languages.
