Aschehoug Literature Prize
The Aschehoug Literature Prize (original Norsk: Aschehougprisen ) is donated by the important Norwegian book publisher Aschehoug and is one of the most important and prestigious in the country. It has been awarded annually to Norwegian writers since 1973.

Structure and history
The literary award was launched in 1972 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Aschehoug publishing house.
The independence from the marketing department of the Stifter-Verlag is guaranteed by the fact that the jury work is carried out by the Norwegian literary critic association Norsk litteraturkritikerlag . Their proposal will be implemented. Only current Norwegian-language original books according to their authors are included in the selection process.
The prize consists of a statuette by the well-known sculptor Ørnulf Bast and 100,000 crowns of prize money (as of 2018). The large anthropomorphic sculpture Evig Liv (English: Eternal Life ) belonging to a fountain , which is the model for the miniature statue, is located on Sehesteds plass (Sehesteds Square) directly in front of the publishing house in Oslo.
The award ceremony traditionally takes place every August at the publisher's garden party.
