Gro Dahle (born May 15, 1962 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian writer .

The daughter of the President of the Worldwatch Institute , Øystein Dahle, and the judge Nina Frisak grew up in Tønsberg , Aruba and New Jersey . She studied English studies, history of ideas and psychology and completed her master's degree at the University of Oslo and also studied creative writing at Telemark University .

She made her literary debut in 1987 with the volume of poetry Audiens ( audience ). This was followed by other volumes of poetry, Apens evangelium (1989), Linneapasjonen (1992), Regnværsgåter (1994), Hundre tusen timer (1996) and Alle fugler (2007). Over the years she published one to three new books almost every year, half of them children's literature, one third poetry, but also dramas and prose, children's plays, radio plays, a libretto for a youth opera, three volumes of novels and three novels. Taken together, according to the list in the SNL (as of 2019), that is a total of 51 book publications. Many of her children's books were created in collaboration with her husband, the illustrator and author Svein Nyhus . She regularly gives creative writing courses in Norway and Sweden.

Gro Dahle has received several national literary prizes for her work. In 1999 she was the official festival poet at the Bergen International Festival . In 2003 she won the norwegian national children's book award. Ministry of Culture for Sinna Mann ( Bösemann ), a book about a young boy who witnesses domestic violence against his mother. This book on a sensitive subject in child psychology also enjoyed great international success and has been translated into numerous languages.

Dahle is a down-to-earth, imaginative and humorous writer who often focuses on psychological problems in living together and relationships.

Gro Dahle lives and works together with her husband Svein Nyhus partly on the island of Tjøme . Their daughter Kaia Dahle Nyhus , born in 1990, followed in the footsteps of her parents as an illustrator as well as a children's book author, made her literary debut in 2014 with her first book publication and received the Norwegian critics' praise in the children's book category for her fifth book Verden sa ja (2018).
