Svein Nyhus (born January 23, 1962 in Tønsberg , Norway ) is a Norwegian illustrator and children's book author .

Nyhus studied from 1981 to 1985 at the State School of Applied Arts in Oslo . He has published numerous picture books of his own , partly in collaboration with his wife, the poet Gro Dahle , and has provided illustrations for twice as many others.

In 2003 the picture book Sinna Mann , translated into many languages, was published , which describes domestic violence from the perspective of a preschooler and makes it understandable for children. In 2004 he designed the children's book Why Kings and Queens Wear No Crowns, written by the Norwegian Princess Märtha Louise . His twin brother Egil Nyhus also works as an illustrator and caricaturist .

Nyhus and his wife Gro Dahle were official guests and speakers at the Berlin International Literature Festival in 2019 .

Private life

Svein Nyhus is the husband of the Norwegian author Gro Dahle (* 1962), who live together in Oslo and on the island of Tjøme . Her grown-up children are the artists Simon Dahle Nyhus (* 1988) and Kaia Dahle Nyhus (* 1990).
