Erlend Loe (born May 24, 1969 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian writer.

life and work

After his community service in a theater group, Loe studied literature , film studies and ethnology in Oslo . Later he also attended the Danish Film School in Copenhagen and the Art Academy in Trondheim. Today he lives in Oslo as a writer, screenwriter and translator.

His first publication was the novel Tatt av Kvinnen in 1993. Loe describes an unequal love affair. When a woman suddenly moves in, the protagonist's life is mixed up once more. His disordered life is now getting more and more structure, but that doesn't seem to improve his satisfaction in the long term either. In 1994 the first book in his socially critical children's book series about Kurt the forklift driver was published.

With the publication of his second novel ( Naiv. Super. ) Loe became known in Norway. A young man in a life crisis is given the job of looking after his brother's apartment, who is away from home. There he gradually gets his life under control through very simple activities (e.g. contact with the boy next door, children's toys, cycling). The sometimes stupid activities enable him to think about his life.

Erlend Loe often chooses protagonists for his novels who are overwhelmed by the everyday. The problems to be solved in the novel often seem simple, even ridiculous, to the reader. Underlined by direct language and the right choice of words, a very unique comedy is created . At the same time, however, Loe raises essential questions about people, the answers to which appear clear at first glance, but which can prove to be more difficult on closer reflection.

In 2010 his novel Doppler (German by Hinrich Schmidt-Henkel), read by Andreas Fröhlich (best interpreter; production Lauscherlounge / Berlin) received the German Audio Book Prize .
