Location of the Blücher barracks in Hesse

The Blücher barracks in the Hessian city of Hessisch Lichtenau in the Werra-Meißner district was a 27 hectare site of the Bundeswehr .

history

The area later used for the construction of the Blücher barracks was sold in 1935 by the city of Hessisch Lichtenau for the establishment of an "operational airport" for the Air Force . In the same year, work began on the alternate airfield for Rothwesten Air Base near Kassel. He was under the airport area command Fritzlar (Koflug) 4 / XII. The 14th pilot training regiment , the pilot school A / B 42 and the II./ Kampfgeschwader 4 were temporarily stationed.

The US Air Force used the airfield as Airfield R-13 from April 1945 until July 22, 1945 after it was captured.

With the establishment of the Bundeswehr , the decision was made to build barracks in Hessisch Lichtenau on the site previously used as an airfield. The building preparations to secure the water supply and the access to the barracks began in 1959. On September 29, 1960, the groundbreaking ceremony for the buildings took place and on September 8, 1961, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated. The keys were handed over in the summer of 1962. A total of 35 million DM had been built. The first soldiers moved in on November 8, 1962.

The buildings in the barracks were expanded and renewed several times, including a multi-purpose hall in 1966, a team home in 1976 and a partial social home for officers and NCOs in 1986.

The name of the barracks after the Prussian Field Marshal GL v. Blücher did not take place until 1967.

In the course of the restructuring of the Bundeswehr ( transformation ), the Blücher barracks was closed in 2006. On July 13, 2006, the official farewell event took place as part of a large tattoo. The last roll call was on November 30, 2006 with the decommissioning of the Panzerartilleriebataillon 2. On December 20, 2006 the barracks gates were finally closed.

The barracks were not only the actual property of the training area Hessisch Lichtenau directly behind the barracks, and the location shooting Hessisch Lichtenau.
