The Blücherschanze is a lunette with a central traverse north of Runkel - Ennerich on the northern edge of the Taunus . It is located south above the Lahn . Their orientation indicates that the exit of the Kerkerbach valley in particular should be monitored from here.
The facility is located directly on the Lahnhöhenweg . Its sides are 30 and 26 meters long, the flanks 25 and 18 meters and its throat wall 32 and 32 meters.
The complex was built by Austrian troops during the coalition wars in 1796 . She served the defense of the Westerwald standing French army and the protection of Frankfurt .
In 1813, 250 soldiers of the Prussian army were buried in the throat of the lunette. These had previously died in the military hospital in Runkel. A memorial erected in 1926 is dedicated to these dead.
