History and commitment

Rail operations

The railcar was built with the serial number 38/21112 by the Wismar wagon factory. Compared to the Wismar rail buses previously used by the company , the SK3 was equipped with a two- machine system and had a large luggage gallery on the roof. It was also equipped with a toilet. He had received a pulling and buffing device and had transition doors on the front sides for the change of the train crew to the sidecar.

After the founding of the OHE, the preferred area of application for the railcar was the Lüneburg – Soltau and the Celle – Soltau railway , where it mainly operated with a sidecar in express train service. It then operated on other sections of the OHE until 1967 when it was converted into the TA0350 sidecar . During the renovation, the machine system was removed; the transition doors and the windows in the anteroom had already been removed. The sidecar now had a two-wing front.

The sidecar was used at the OHE for about ten years. In 1977 it was handed over to the port railway in Hanover as a tour car , where it remained until 1986.

Museum railways

From 1986 the car belonged to the Weserbergland steam railway and was designated TA 16 . From 1988 to 1990 it was used on the Ostfriesland Coast Railway Museum Railway , then passed on to the Verden Railway Friends. In 2011 the car came to the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Verkehrsfreunde Lüneburg . There he bears the NVR number 95 80 0140 602-3 D-TEL .

Technical features / equipment

The SK3 was built for sidecar operation with a pulling and buffing device and equipped with a double machine system. It had a vertical front wall, a good side view for the drivers through the rounded side windows and a transition device for the train crew.

The rounded corners made it look modern. The car body was made according to the principles of lightweight construction of the time and made in frame construction. The passenger compartment with 62 seats was located between the relatively small entry areas where the driver had his workplace. The entrance doors were sliding doors, and there were also transition devices for the train crew in the sidecars. These transitional facilities were still in place in 1956. Ten years later, the railcar had closed front sections with two windows.

The two-machine system consisted of two Daimler-Benz OM 67 diesel engines and two Mylius transmissions. In 1967 the machinery was expanded. The car was only used as a sidecar.
