Black Ox Orkestar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Black Ox Orkestar is a Montreal-based quartet that plays European Jewish folklore music. It was founded in 2000 .

In their self-image, the musicians make “New Jewish Music” with a nostalgic note.

They try to use the typical instruments of the Jewish folk ballads. For this they write new, political texts in Yiddish and make free use of recordings of Yiddish and non-Yiddish traditional music. These include musical influences from the Balkans , Central Asia , Eastern Europe and the Arab region .
