Black Raven is a German band from Düsseldorf . Their music is assigned to rock 'n' roll , more precisely to rockabilly or teddy boy rock'n'roll. The band's name is derived from the rock'n'roll bar of the same name in London , England , which existed in the 1970s .
history
Black Raven was founded in 1992 by Julian Wiethoff ( vocals , guitar ), Zlatko Tudja (vocals, guitar), Andy Tudja ( drums ) and Torsten Leyhausen ( bass ). The first appearance took place in March 1993 in Neuss.
Black Raven are considered the first internationally successful so-called revival rock'n'roll band from Germany. The first international appearances took place just two years after it was founded in 1994 in England, which can be seen as the motherland of the revival rock'n'roll movement of the late 70s and early 80s. These include appearances at the Teddy Boy Weekender in Great Yarmouth or the Blackpool Rock'n'Roll Weekender.
Black Raven performed as a backing band with Graham Fenton from Matchbox , Sandy Ford from the Flying Saucers and Freddie Fingers Lee .
Participation in the first Jägermeister rock league in 2004 - a competition in which 18 German bands competed against each other - should be seen as a national career highlight. Black Raven reached third place, from which an appearance at Rock am Ring 2005 alongside Iron Maiden , Green Day , REM , Mötley Crüe , Sonic Youth , The Hives , Slayer , Marilyn Manson , Mando Diao and Die Toten Hosen, also from Düsseldorf, among others resulted.
The band appears increasingly in other European countries, especially in Scandinavia. Black Raven has performed in 23 countries outside of Germany, including Japan, Russia and the USA.
