Blackstad is a place ( småort ) and a parish in the municipality of Västervik in the Swedish province of Kalmar County . In 2015 there were 141 inhabitants in Blackstad. There is a small grocery store, school, hairdresser, bus connections and a sawmill.
Historically important for Blackstad was the indirect connection to the Hultsfred – Västervik narrow-gauge railway . A steamboat moored in Hummelstad , six kilometers away , which enabled goods to be transported to Ankarsrum . This enabled some farms to grow further. Since the road between Vimmerby and Västervik was rebuilt , Blackstad has clearly lost its importance.
