Blake Oshiro

Blake K. Oshiro (born January 16, 1970 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) is an American politician. He was a Member of the Hawaii House of Representatives for the 33rd constituency from January 2001 to December 2011 . He is a member of the Democratic Party and was the majority leader in the House of Representatives. He later served as the assistant chief of staff to Neil Abercrombie , the governor of Hawaii.

Oshiro graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts in 1992 . He then completed a law degree at the William S. Richardson School of Law of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa , where he obtained the degree of Juris Doctor with a special qualification in environmental law in 1996 . He is an associate attorney with a law firm in Honolulu.

In the spring of 2010, Oshiro came out as homosexual on the occasion of a vote that decided to introduce registered partnerships for same-sex partners in Hawaii.

In November 2011, Oshiro announced his resignation from the House of Representatives to become Abercrombie's deputy chief of staff.
