Blanka Modra

Blanka Modra (* 1946 in Prague ) is a dancer and actress .

Life

Blanka Modra did a classical ballet training in Prague. From 1964 to 1968 she was a member of the “Studio Ballet Prague” company, with which she performed worldwide. From 1968 to 1972 she danced in the Prague company "Laterna Magika". In 1972 she emigrated to Vienna , where she has lived ever since. From 1972 to 1984 she was prima ballerina at the Theater an der Wien , after which she moved to the Burgtheater , where she worked as a choreographer and actress. From 1985 she was a member of the Burgtheater ensemble.

Modra trained in theater and jazz in New York . She also appeared at the Salzburg Festival , including in Jedermann , in Mozart's Magic Flute and in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin , and worked with many renowned directors . She also worked in films, as an actor and as a choreographer. She also taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

Blanka Modra is the daughter of the late Czechoslovak ice hockey goalkeeper Bohumil Modrý . On the basis of conversations with her and the documents she provided, the Austrian writer Josef Haslinger wrote a novel-like biography of her father, who was sentenced to forced labor in Czechoslovakia in the 1950s and died as a result. The book, entitled Jáchymov , was published in August 2011.
