The Blanke is the largest district of Nordhorn in the Grafschaft Bentheim district . It was named after wet meadows on the southern edge of the city, the large and the small Blanke.

history

In 1928 a Nordhorn textile company built a transformer station in what is now the district, around which a settlement was formed. In 1934 the German Settlers Association decided to build 31 houses there. From 1948 to 1950 the large Nordhorn textile companies NINO , Rawe and Povel formed a consortium together with the GEWO housing association. In a very short time, terraced houses based on the American model were built for around 4,000 residents.

The Blanke was a major construction site in the years that followed. In 1932 only 37 inhabitants were counted, in 1951 there were already more than 5000. Today the Blanke has about 13000 inhabitants. In connection with the resumption of rail traffic , the Blanke received a stop on the Neuenhaus – Bad Bentheim route in summer 2019.
