Bookholt is a farming community and former municipality in the Grafschaft Bentheim district in Lower Saxony . The district belongs politically to the town of Nordhorn .

Bookholt is located in the southwest of Lower Saxony, about 4 kilometers from the Dutch and 28 km from the North Rhine-Westphalian border. The nearest towns are Nordhorn (4 km southeast) and Neuenhaus (10 km northwest). The district is bounded in the east by the south-north canal, in the south partly by the Ems-Vechte canal and in the west partly by the Vechte .

Reorganization of the municipalities in 1929

In 1904, the Bußmaate settlement was built directly on the city limits of Nordhorn for the growing number of textile workers. Other settlements followed in the southern part of the municipality. Incorporation of this southern part to Nordhorn initially failed in 1913, but was implemented on July 1, 1929 with 2642 inhabitants. At the same time, a parcel of the Altendorf community was incorporated into Bookholt. On March 1, 1974 the Bookholt farmers were incorporated into the district town of Nordhorn.
