The leaf finger geckos (Phyllodactylidae) are a family of gecko-like (Gekkota). They come in Southern Europe, in Africa , in southern North America , in Central and South America , especially south of the Amazon , in front and in Southeast Asia before. The family was only established in 2008 on the basis of phylogenetic studies with the help of DNA sequencing of the protein-coding DNA of 44 gecko species and is the sister group of the real geckos (Gekkonidae). It includes all gecko species that share a younger ancestor with Phyllodactylus pulcher than with the tokeh ( Gekko gecko ), a total of 134 species. This also includes the European species of wall gecko ( Tarentola mauritanica ) and European leaf finger ( Phyllodactylus europaeus ).
The original classification of the gecko-like was mainly based on the structure of the sticky toes, but ignored the fact that different toe structures had developed independently of each other several times, depending on the animals' environment.

The family who first described the family suspect that three further South American genera, which were not included in their investigation, must be placed in the new family:
