The Blauer Lache (also known as Blauer Lacke ) is the southernmost lake in the Berchtesgaden National Park . It is located in the district of Forst St. Bartholomä (until December 31, 1983 a municipality-free area ) of the municipality of Schönau am Königssee .

Condition and location

The blue pool has a length of about 65 m with a maximum width of 40 m and has an area of just over 2200 m².

With a water level of 1836  m above sea level. NHN , the lake is probably one of the highest standing bodies of water in Germany. It has neither a natural inflow nor a direct outflow and is fed by rainwater and meltwater.

The lake is located in the southernmost tip of the German part of the Berchtesgaden Alps between Leiterkopf (2369 m), Hocheck (2230 m) and Neuhütter (2075 m). It is about 16 km south of the Berchtesgaden market , a good 3 km south-southeast of the Obersee and 0.8 km from the border with Austria . The lake is surrounded by the over 2000 m high Hocheck, Rosentalhörnl and Wildtorkopf mountains. It can only be reached on foot via a steep path from the southern end of the Königssees (via the Wasseralm 800 m higher , which is now used by the German Alpine Association) or from the Austrian side.
