Blue ribbon (tourist route)
The Blue Band tourist route is a tourist initiative of the state of Saxony-Anhalt .
description
The tourist route launched in 1995 is intended to further develop and promote water tourism along the Elbe and its tributaries in Saxony-Anhalt. A special feature of the rivers are the near-natural conditions of the landscapes. The reason for this was the inner-German border during the Cold War , which meant that the Elbe lost its connection to the North and Baltic Seas . It was therefore not expanded, which hindered water sports, the economy and water tourism. This naturalness is almost unique in Europe today, which is why the river landscapes have been building on this potential since the fall of the Wall .
The water tourism network consists of the following bodies of water:
- Elbe - the landscape around the main river in Saxony-Anhalt is protected by UNESCO as the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve
- Mittelland Canal - rather few scenic attractions due to the high embankments, but cities such as Haldensleben or Calvörde are well worth seeing
- Elbe-Havel Canal - also few scenic attractions, cities worth seeing include Burg (near Magdeburg) and Genthin
- Havel - a wide view of the country, intact nature and the habitat of many rare animal and plant species
- Saale - numerous castles and palaces are located on the Saale
- Unstrut - the northernmost wine-growing region in Germany, numerous castles and palaces
- Arendsee , Bergwitzsee , Kelbra dam , Concordiasee , Geiseltalsee , Goitzsche
