Here you can find them at altitudes between 1500 and 2900 m. They are present on the damp slopes above the city of Cochabamba and in the yungas and valleys of the department of Cochabamba in Bolivia. From there, it is found in the province of Tucumán in northwest Argentina.
Subspecies

Etymology and history of research
When it was first described in the Magasin de Zoologie , d'Orbigny and Lafresnaye used the name Ornismya glaucopoides . Only later was the species added to the genus Eriocnemis . This name is derived from the Greek words »erion ἔριον « for »wool« and »knēmis κνημίς « for »cuff, leg splint «. John Gould used the common name D'Orbigny's Puff-leg and the synonym Eriocnemis dorbignyi in his work A monograph of the Trochilidæ, or family of humming-birds . The specific epithet »glaucopoides« is a Greek structure from »glaukos γλαυκος « for »blue-gray, dull green to gray-blue« and »-oidēs -οιδης « for »similar, equal«.
