Bledius furcatus is a beetle from the family of the short-winged species (Staphylinidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 5.5 to 7.5 millimeters. Their bodies are black or black-brown in color. The mouthparts , antennae and legs are a little lighter in color. The front edge of the head shield is bent up. The front edge of the pronotum is pointed. In the males, this horn is hairy in tufts.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is mainly found in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean area and only occurs in some places in Central Europe and in southern Northern Europe. They can be found on the coast of the Black Sea, the Mediterranean from Syria via North Africa to southern Europe, on the French Atlantic coast, on the Channel coasts, the coasts of Germany and Denmark and on the Kattegat in southwest Sweden. Inland, the species is found in the Caucasus , southern Russia and parts of Central and Eastern Europe. The animals are salt-loving (halobiont) and live on the seashore and also in the inland in salty places. The species digs tunnels about 10 centimeters deep in the ground.
