Bledius unicornis is a beetle from the family of the rophylinidae .

features

The beetles reach a body length of 4 to 4.5 millimeters. The front edge of the head shield is not bent up, the front angle of the pronotum is not pointed. The cover wings are longer than together wide, rarely as long as together wide. Like the rest of the body, they are colored black. The legs are mostly dark in color. The horn of the pronotum is not furrowed in the male.

Occurrence and way of life

The species is distributed in the south of the Palearctic and comes from the Caspian Sea , the Red Sea , the Mediterranean coasts , the European Atlantic coast including the Canary Islands over the coasts of the English Channel to the North Sea. The species is absent in Denmark. In the interior they can be found in salty places in the south of Siberia and Russia as well as around Lake Neusiedl . The species occurs mainly on the seashore and also in salty places inland. It is salt-loving (halophilic), but occurs in south-eastern Central Europe in non-salty areas.
