Grisebach's sword plant ( Echinodorus grisebachii ) is a species of the genus sword plants ( Echinodorus ) within the family of the frog-spoon plants (Alismataceae). It is used as an aquarium plant.
description
This marsh plant is a medium to large and vigorously growing, perennial herbaceous plant that forms rhizomes . The ribbon-shaped to linear leaves stand together in a leaf rosette . The upper side of the leaf is medium to dark green.
Taxonomy
The first description of Echinodorus grisebachii was made in 1909 by John Kunkel Small in Nathaniel Lord Britton & al. (Ed.): North American Flora , Volume 17, p. 46. The specific epithet grisebachii honors the German botanist August Grisebach . Synonyms for Echinodorus grisebachii Small are: Echinodorus amphibius Rataj , Echinodorus gracilis Rataj , Echinodorus amazonicus Rataj , Echinodorus bleheri Rataj , Echinodorus parviflorus Rataj ( black sword plant ), Echinodorus eglandulosus Holm-Niels. & RRHaynes , Echinodorus grisebachii var. Minor Kasselm.
Occurrence
The natural neotropical wide range extends from Honduras to Brazil.
Use in the aquarium hobby
Like some other Echinodorus species, Grisebach's sword plant is one of the popular aquarium plants . Grisebach's sword plant is considered an undemanding plant. However, it is rarely offered in pet shops.
In the aquarium , Grisebach's sword plant thrives best at temperatures between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius. It is suitable as a medium, background and specimen plant. Aquariums should hold around 150 liters.
