Bloodgood is an American White-Metal - band . It was founded in 1985 in Seattle , Washington . The band plays traditional heavy metal with Christian lyrics.

history

The name Bloodgood is the last name of the band's founder Michael Bloodgood. The name goes back to its ancestors who came from Holland and later emigrated to America . The name should also be a symbol for "the good blood that Jesus shed for us".

The band was formed in 1985. In the same year the demo Metal Missionaries was recorded, which caught the attention of the Christian rock label Frontline Records. David Mansfield signed the band and produced their self-titled debut album . JT Taylor has been replaced by Mark Welling. In 1987 the commercially successful successor Detonation appeared .

A well-known American television preacher spoke out publicly against the band shortly before a major tour. The tour almost ended the formation financially. Then the recording process for the album Rock in a Hard Place began . The album was released in 1988 and was more commercial than its predecessor. Despite the new sound, the sales figures couldn't keep up with Detonation . A mini tour, however, consolidated its status in the scene.

Even before the recording process for the album Out of the Darkness , guitarist David Zaffiro got out because he wanted to look after his son and earn his living as a music producer. Paul Jackson played the guitar for the 1989 album. The drummer was also replaced by Kevin Whisler. The band returned to the heavier heavy metal sound.

Two live albums and two live videos followed in 1990. In 1991, All Stand Together was released. With Paul Roraback there was again a new drummer in the band. Mark Welling returned in 1993 and the live album To Germany with Love was recorded with him before the band broke up in 1994. The live album was initially only published in Germany (edition: 990 copies), only in 2000 was a US version published with a changed artwork.

Michael Bloodgood was pastor of " Calvary Chapel Redmond", his bandmate Les Carlsen played in a version of the musical Hair and tried his hand at being an art dealer. During this time there were re-releases of the albums, which sold relatively well.

In 2002 a reunion of the band failed. Meanwhile, Michael Bloodgood fell ill with an artery occlusion that nearly led to his death. In 2006 he was rehabilitated . His voice, damaged by the necessary surgery, returned so that he could sing and preach again. Bloodgood were re-established. Oz Fox, known from Stryper , joined as the second guitarist . You have already played a few festivals with the new line-up, e. B. at the Cornerstone Festival in California and at the Legends of Rock in Ennepetal, here with the new song Man in the Middle . In 2013 Mark Welling left the band. Kevin Whisler took the place on the drums again.

On November 29, 2013, their latest album Dangerously Close was finally released. It appeared on its own label “B. Goode Records ”and was produced by Paul Jackson with the assistance of Michael Bloodgood and Les Carlsen. In addition to Mark Simmons, former Bloodgood guitarist David Zaffiro was hired for the mastering. Previously, the music video for "Lamb of God", the first song on the album, was released on October 19, 2013.
