Bob Ross (born April 25, 1954 in Kirkcaldy , Scotland ) is a Scottish horn player with the Munich Philharmonic , conductor , entertainer , moderator and founder of the ensemble " Blechschaden ".

Career

The young Bob Ross gained his first musical experience in his hometown as a member of various brass bands before he finally began his music studies at the Royal College of Music in Glasgow . There he learned to play the horn and received the conducting and composition prize. As a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Ross finished his education at the Musikhochschule in Cologne before he got his first engagement as horn player at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in 1975 . After a short interlude with the Philharmonic Orchestra Essen, the Scot finally landed with the Munich Philharmonic under Sergiu Celibidache in 1979 .

In 1985 he founded the Ensemble Blechschaden. Among his musician colleagues he found eleven like-minded people who were interested in brass music. What began as a musical leisure time fun has developed over the years into a successful part-time job with around 50 performances per year. Even the Bayreuth Festival , in whose orchestra he played between 1981 and 1986, had to do without Bob Ross. Blechschaden concerts are characterized by the amalgamation of serious and popular music and are characterized by the humor and the energetic stage presence of their conductor. Already twice, in 1999 and 2002, Bob Ross and Blechschaden received the coveted Echo Klassik for their CDs Brassomania and Blechschaden in Blech . In 2007 he returned to the Wagner city as part of the Bayreuth Easter Festival . Under his musical direction the Festival Brass of the International Young Orchestra Academy performed in the Margravial Opera House.

Every Sunday evening since January 9, 2011, Bob Ross has presented the program Musikgeschichte (n) with Bob Ross - From the Bone Flute to Rock Music on BR-alpha , in which he entertains viewers through (European) music history .

In 2018 he was awarded the Bayerischer Poetentaler .
