Bobby Johnstone (born September 7, 1929 in Selkirk , Scottish Borders , † August 22, 2001 ibid) was a Scottish football player on the position of a striker .

Life

In the early 1950s, Johnstone, along with Gordon Smith , Lawrie Reilly , Eddie Turnbull and Willie Ormond, formed the Hibs ' famous assault line , which became known nationwide as the Famous Five , and for the club in the 1950/51 and 1951/52 seasons the two so far last championship .

His first appointment to the Scottish national team received Johnstone on April 14, 1951 as part of the British Home Championship at London's Wembley Stadium against the England team . Johnstone scored the first goal for the later 3-2 victory of his team. Johnstone was also part of the Scottish World Cup squad in 1954 , but was not used there due to an injury.

In 1955 he moved to Manchester City , reached the FA Cup finals twice in a row with the Citizens and was the first player ever to score a goal in two consecutive finals in this competition. The first final on May 7, 1955, the Citizens lost 3-1 against Newcastle United , the second final on May 5, 1956 they won with the same result against Birmingham City .
