The land reform monument or monument to the democratic land reform is a listed monument in the city of Merseburg in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument with registration number 094 20290 .

General

Land reform monuments were erected in all major cities of the German Democratic Republic from 1945 as a memorial to the land reform in the Soviet occupation zone . The rest of the land reform monument in Merseburg is to the west of Thomas-Müntzer-Ring .

Design and history

From the original memorial only the platform for the actual memorial remains today. The land reform monument was a concrete sculpture, similar to the flag monuments in Halle and Magdeburg , with an inscription. It was built by the artist collective Gerhard Lichtenfeld , Martin Wetzel , Berndt, Gebhardt, Kurzawa and Rex in 1970, of which Lichtenfeld was also involved in the fists on Riebeckplatz in Halle (1968). In 1993 it was decided to partially demolish the monument, and the inscription was also removed.
