Bodo Klimpel (born November 12, 1963 in Rourkela , India ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been mayor of the North Rhine-Westphalian city ​​of Haltern am See since 2004 .

Bodo Klimpel has been the mayor of Haltern am See since September 2004. He was elected with 50.7 percent of the valid votes. Among other things, he campaigns for all-day care in schools. Since 2006 he has been chairman of the support association of the technical aid organization Haltern. In 2009 he was re-elected with 74.2 percent of the valid votes, whereby he was able to gain more than 30 percentage points compared to the 2004 election in the constituency elementary school Silverberg. In the mayoral election in 2014, he received only 52.5 percent of the valid votes, but was clearly confirmed in office.

Bodo Klimpel gained national fame in connection with the crash of the Germanwings flight 9525 , in which 16 students and two teachers from the local Joseph-König-Gymnasium were killed and Klimpel appeared several times in front of the partly international and partly local press about this accident reported.

In June 2020, Klimpel was nominated for the upcoming local election in September as a joint candidate of the CDU and FDP for the office of district administrator in the Recklinghausen district . Furthermore, Klimpel was nominated for election to the Ruhr Parliament in fourth place on the CDU list . After 16 years in office, Klimpel does not run again for the election of mayor of Haltern am See.
