Bodschnurd ( Persian بجنورد Bojnūrd , also Bojnurd , Bojnourd or Bojnord , Kurdish Bocnûrd) is the capital of the Iranian province of North Khorasan.
The city is 701 km away from the state capital Tehran and has a population of almost 197,000 in 2012.
history
Bodschnurd was probably founded by the Safavids . The city walls included four mosques and just as many city gates. In front of the walls were fertile and irrigated fields.
In 1896 and 1929 the city and its surroundings were struck by earthquakes and largely destroyed. During the reconstruction, the streets were laid out in a grid pattern and no city fortifications were made.
