North Khorasan ( Persian خراسان شمالی) is a province in northeastern Iran on the border with Turkmenistan . The capital is Bodschnurd .
863,092 people live in the province (2016 census). The area of the province extends to 28,434 square kilometers. The population density is 30 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The population consists of 46% Kurds , 28% Persians , 21% Khorasan Turks, 3% Turkmen and 2% from other population groups.
history
Until 2004, the province was part of the former Khorasan Province .
