Boechera is a genus of plants belonging tothe cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). The genus was named in honor of the Danish botanist Tyge Wittrock Böcher (1909–1983).
features
Most types of the genus are perennial , herbaceous plants . If the leaves are hairy, they have branched trichomes .
Many small flowers stand together in elongated, racemose inflorescences . The four petals range in color from white to lavender to purple.
The genus was originally due to the combination of features "flattened parallel to the septum pods , branched trichomes and applied cotyledons" the genus Arabis ( Arabis associated), but due to a diploid non-number of sets of chromosomes from x = 7 spun as a separate genus. This classification was then supported by further morphological, cytological and molecular biological investigations.
Many species within the genus reproduce asexually via apomixis .
distribution
The species of the genus Boechera occur in North America and Greenland .
