Bogata is a city in Red River County in the US state of Texas in the United States of America .

geography

The city is located almost in the extreme northeast of Texas, in the southwest corner of Red River County, about 45 km below the southeastern tip of Oklahoma and has a total area of ​​3.7 km² with no significant water surface. US Highway 271 and Texas State Route 37 and Farm Road 909 intersect here . It is around 190 km to Dallas in the southwest.

history

Bogata is one of the oldest places in Texas. The first family to settle here came as early as 1818 and settled near the source of Little Mustang Creek . They named this place Maple Springs . More settlers came to the area over the years and by 1844 Maple Springs was big enough to be able to build a school. A post office followed in 1851. The first commercial activities did not start until after the American Civil War , with the opening of a shop that sourced its goods from Jefferson .

In 1880 the extensive settlement was divided. The old Maple Springs post office took the name Rosalie and in 1881 a second post office opened in the west, today's Bogata, named after the Colombian Bogotá . In 1885 there were already two churches, two cotton processing plants and six flour mills and 400 residents. In 1910, the Paris and Mount Pleasant Railway moved their tracks to Bogata. Railway operations were discontinued in 1956.

According to the 2000 census, 1,396 people lived here in 598 households and 361 families. The population density was 382.3 inhabitants per km ². The racial population is made up of 93.91% White, 3.01% African American, 0.72% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents, and 1.36% others ethnic groups.
