Life

After graduating from school in Moscow, Lachert studied architecture in Warsaw. He then became a member of the Praesens group and became friends with Józef Szanajca . In 1927 they took part in the competition for the seat of the League of Nations in Geneva ; At the International Exhibition of Art and Technology ( Exposition Internationale des arts et des techniques dans la vie modern Paris ) in 1935 they received an award (“Grand Prix”) for the Polish pavilion. During the occupation in World War II , Lachert founded the group "Piatka konspiracyjna" (German: Konspirative Fünf ) with the architects Barbara Brukalska, Stefan Tworkowski, Jerzy Gomóliński and Zasław Malicki . This group developed plans to rebuild Aleje Jerozolimskie . Lachert also taught at the Warsaw Faculty of Architecture, which was continued underground.

At the end of the war, Lachert was in Lublin. On January 28, 1945, the Lublin government sent him to Warsaw with Józef Sigalin and Lech Niemojewski to work in the Office for the Reconstruction of the Capital (BOS) . Since February he was head of the architecture and engineering department. From 1948 and 1952 he designed and built the Muranów settlement , which was built in place of the former Warsaw ghetto . During the work on the settlement, the doctrine of Socialist Realism was introduced, as a result of which Lachert was forced to revise his project.
