Boyan Ikonomov

Bojan Georgiev Ikonomow ( Bulgarian Боян Георгиев Икономов , * December 1 July / December 14,  1900 greg. In Nikopol ; † March 27, 1973 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian composer.

Ikonomow studied law at the University of Sofia and worked as a bank clerk, in addition he completed training in music theory, harmony and counterpoint with Nikola Atanasov . From 1928 he lived in Paris , studied from 1931 at the Schola Cantorum with Vincent d'Indy and Guy de Lioncourt and finally with Nadia Boulanger and Albert Roussel . In 1934 he attended conducting courses with Felix Weingartner in Basel and then worked throughout Europe from Paris to Budapest as a conductor of concerts in which he always performed Bulgarian music.

In 1937 he returned to Bulgaria, worked for the Bulgarian state film company from 1948 to 1956, in the Ministry of Culture until 1957 and as head of the music department of Radio Sofia until 1960.

He composed an opera , a children's operetta , three ballets , three cantatas, two oratorios, four symphonies (1937, 1947, 1955, 1972), other orchestral works, concertos for violin (1951) and piano (1958), chamber music , including 6 string quartets , also piano and choral works, songs , mass songs and film music.
