Bojung Scato Georg Lantzius-Beninga (born August 12, 1815 at Gut Stikelkamp , East Frisia , † March 6, 1871 ibid) was a German botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Lantz-Bén. "

Life

He was the son of the landowner and chief forester Bojung Scato Lantzius-Beninga (1775–1861) on Gut Stikelkamp. Bojung, who struggled with problems in his childhood, only learned to walk when he was 7 years old. His tutor awakened a love of nature in him. Lantzius-Beninga studied from 1837 at the Polytechnic in Hanover , completed an apprenticeship as a pharmacist in Timmel in 1839 and studied natural sciences in Berlin from 1840 and botany in Göttingen from 1841 with a doctorate in 1844 with a dissertation on the construction of deciduous mosses (De evolutione sporidiorum in capsulis muscorum) . He completed his habilitation in Göttingen in 1846, was assistant from 1850 and assessor at the university herbarium from 1852 and associate professor in Göttingen from 1870.

A flora from East Frisia comes from him. It was suggested by the Hanover Ministry as a supplement to the Chloris hanoverana (1836) by Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Meyer . In 1855 he became a member of the Leopoldina . In 1849 he became a corresponding member of the Natural Research Society in Emden .

His brother Eberhard (1808–1902) was the heir of the estate, head forester and from 1870 to 1882 a national liberal member of parliament for the Leer district in the Prussian state house, his brother Carl Christian magistrate in Wittmund and his brother Stephan lawyer in Aurich. His grandfather was a Prussian war councilor first called Lantzius-Beninga after his father had married one of the last descendants of the East Frisian noble Beninga family .
