history

Bolta was founded in Nuremberg in 1921 by Johannes Bolten (1893–1982), initially to make combs from Bakelite . Bolten emigrated to America in 1929 , where the active evangelical Christian became an American citizen as John Bolten and a successful business founder and manager. But he did not give up the Bolta works in Nuremberg. From 1936 Bolta-Werke presented Cameras ago (Boltavit, Photavit) . After the declaration of war against America in 1941, Bolten lost access to his company, which, as an important military operation, continued to manufacture cameras - probably with the use of slave labor. After the end of the war, the Soviet Union therefore demanded the machine park as reparations . From America, John Bolten succeeded in preventing this and restarting production at the Bolta works shortly after the end of the war.

From 1950 Bolta Werke household plastic items, from 1952 plastic profiles (came to the production range PVC ) and plastic threads ( Saran ). In 1958 the subsidiary Bolta Industrie- und Bauprofile was founded in Schönberg (Lower Bavaria) . For space and capacity reasons, Bolta moved to nearby Diepersdorf in 1964. A completely new plant (today's Plant 1) was built here. After this move, the company specialized in surface-refined injection-molded components for automotive and sanitary requirements. In 1967 the first semi-automatic plastic electroplating plant in Germany was put into operation and the company was expanded several times in the following years with new plants.

1975 acquired the Bowater Corporation Ltd. dependent Wickrather Handels- und Beteiligungs-Aktiengesellschaft took a majority stake in Bolta. Since 1985 the company has been owned by the internationally active Puri family ( Purico, Melton Medes Group ), who were investigated in the USA between 2002 and 2008 for financial manipulation in the bankruptcy of Ecusta . Before that, Puri was involved in a fraud involving workers' pension funds in England . After the takeover, the subsidiary Industrie- und Bauprofile became independent within the Puri Group.

In 1994 a plant was taken over in Gottmadingen , Baden-Württemberg , which mainly produces copper and nickel foils and operates the MID hot stamping process. In 2004, Bolta and Nicro SA de CV founded the joint venture Nicro Bolta SA de CV in Mexico with its own injection molding and electroplating plant. Between 2004 and 2013, profit quadrupled from 30 to almost 120 million euros.

After expanding the injection molding capacities in 2008 (today's Plant 2), Bolta-Werke opened another plant in Leinburg in 2017 (today's Plant 3). This also functions as a competence center for future projects.

In 2013 Bolta was named among the Bavarian best 50 . In July 2013, Schönberger Industrie- und Bauprofile GmbH went into bankruptcy and was taken over by the Swiss APU AG in November 2013 . In September 2013, Bolta announced the establishment of the sister company Bolta US . Our aim in 2015 Tuscaloosa ( Alabama are opened). In 2016, the plants were held responsible for increased PFOS values in neighboring Birkensee . However, this assumption could be refuted and there is no connection between the Bolta works and the increased PFOS values in Birkensee Birkensee .
