Bomba, the jungle boy
Bomba, the jungle boy was a series of books for young people published under the author name Roy Rockwood , a pseudonym of the publisher Stratemeyer Syndicate ( Edward Stratemeyer ) and featuring a boy growing up in the jungle who experiences adventures tailored to young people in the style of Tarzan .
Content and representations
Written under a publishing pseudonym by a group of authors, including Howard R. Garis , the first 10 volumes of the stories allow Bomba, a white boy, to continue on his adventures in the South American jungle, while the action for volumes 11-20 has been relocated to Africa. The series was published by Cupples & Leon between 1926 and 1938 . Fourteen volumes were also published in German, probably abridged, for the first time in the 1950s by AWA-Verlag (AWA-Verlag EF Flatau & Co., Munich) in two different cover versions, one for the rental book and one for the book trade market. New editions were later published in paperback by Bastei Verlag .
In the storyline, Bomba has to deal with various dangers and adventures; The trigger is the search for his parents, which leads him to various islands and cities shrouded in mystery. Sometimes he saves a white family from headhunters, sometimes he helps researchers discover a medicinal plant. In Africa he has to do with pygmies, cannibals and jungle warriors; he has now found his father and would like to return to the "New World" with him.
Between 1949 and 1955, the Monogram production company produced twelve inexpensive B-films with Johnny Sheffield in the lead role.
A comic series also appeared. In 1967, however, she was unsuccessful at DC Comics with only 7 issues.
