Bombolo (literally: "Ballon"; actually Franco Lechner ; * May 22, 1931 in Rome , † August 21, 1987 there ) was an Italian comedian .

Life

Bombolo was born under his real name Franco Lechner in the Roman district of Ponte . For many years he earned his living as a street vendor who sold cups, bath towels and parasols to tourists on Campo de 'Fiori . Discovered by screenwriter and director Bruno Corbucci , Bombolo (the "balloon") devoted himself to acting from 1976. He belonged to the "Bagaglino" of the comedian troupe led by Pier Francesco Pingitore and Mario Castellacci and appeared in its theater productions. In the film, the massive, often over-the-top actor with incomparable facial expressions played almost exclusively under his discoverer Corbucci and his patron Pingitore. In the films about “Nico Giraldi” (in German-speaking countries often marketed as “Superbulle”, later marketed as “Schlitzohr”), Bombolo portrayed his idiot, head-nut-receiving assistant “Venticello”.

Television also used its comedy; In addition to some shows such as “C'era una volta Roma” and “Sponsor City”, he had his own program (again under Pingitore), Bombolo: un comico preso dall'osteria .

Bombolo's tombstone on the Cimitero Flaminio bears the inscription: “Adieu Bombolo, Heart of Rome”.
