Bominaco is a fraction of the Italian municipality of Caporciano in the province of L'Aquila , Abruzzo region .

geography

The place is located about 1.5 km southwest of Caporciano and about 30 km southeast of L'Aquila on the edge of the Navelli plateau above the Anterno valley at an altitude of 974  m slm

history

Bominaco developed as a fortified place around the Benedictine abbey of Mamenacus . There is evidence that the origins of the abbey go back to the 10th century. It was sacked and partially destroyed in the war between the House of Anjou and the Aragonese in the first half of the 15th century , and finally disbanded in the 18th century. Two cult buildings, the church of Santa Maria Assunta and the oratory of San Pellegrino, have been preserved from the former abbey .
