The Castello di Bominaco is the ruins of a hilltop castle in the fraction Bominaco the Italian community Caporciano in the province of L'Aquila .

history

The Castello di Bominaco was built above the complex of the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Monastery of San Pellegrino in a dominant position over the Navelli plateau .

The first buildings date back to the 12th century, but the current structures were built after the destruction of the previous castle by Braccio da Montone in 1424 and its reconstruction by the feudal lord of Bominaco, Cipriano di Iacobuccio da Forfona , with the permission of Pope Martin V. .

description

The enclosure wall encloses a trapezoidal area and is interrupted by towers with a square floor plan. The highest point of the enclosure is protected by a cylindrical tower with a steeply sloping base and a protruding crenellated crown .

Extensive traces of the walls of earlier buildings are still preserved inside the enclosure.
