Bonawentura Niemojowski

Bonawentura von Niemojowski (born September 4, 1787 in Slupin, South Prussia , † June 15, 1835 in Paris ) was a Polish liberal politician. He was president of the Polish national government in the final phase of the November uprising of 1830/31.

Life

He received his school education in Warsaw . He then studied political science and law at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . From May 9, 1805 to August 1807, he was at the Friedrich-Alexander University . Until July 1806 he was in the Berlin Society (Erlangen) . When the offspring from Prussia failed to come and they had to close, Niemojowski went to the Erlangen Westphalians , who were still in existence for three years. He then traveled through Germany, France and England for the purpose of further training. He then worked as a lawyer and author. In 1820 he was elected to the Sejm of Congress Poland . Together with his brother Wincenty Niemojowski , he organized a liberal opposition movement. This turned against the violation of the constitution of 1815 by the Russian government. Since both brothers were elected in the Kalisz region , their political group was called Kaliszanie .

During the November uprising, Niemojowski took on various important offices. He was Minister of Justice and the Interior. He gave up the latter office when he failed to enforce the abolition of serfdom. He was also vice president and president of the national government. He became the latter after Jan Krukowiecki was deposed and captured on September 8, 1831. He was one of those forces that resisted surrender despite the looming defeat and the occupation of Warsaw. After the suppression of the uprising, he fled to Paris. There he was active as the president of an emigre organization.
