The Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology ( B-IT ) was founded in autumn 2002 as a joint central scientific institution of the University of Bonn , RWTH Aachen University , the Fraunhofer Institutes in Sankt Augustin and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences . According to the University Act, this is only possible for a few years and represents a pioneering project. The B-IT building is located in Bonn , until March 2018 at Dahlmannstrasse 2 ( former NRW state representative in Bonn ). In the meantime, b-it, together with IT, has moved into the new building at Endeicher Allee 19A on the Poppelsdorf campus.

The joint and central scientific institution exists between the University of Bonn and RWTH Aachen University and is called the B-IT Universities Institute . The establishment of the Bonn Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences is called the B-IT Applied Science Institute .

B-IT Foundation

The B-IT is financed by the specially established foundation, the B-IT Foundation. This was endowed with funds from the Bonn-Berlin Compensation and project funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with 56 million euros and will continue to be financed by complementary NRW state funds.

The aim of the B-IT Foundation is to internationalize and accelerate courses in applied computer science at the elite level. The cooperation between universities and non-university research institutions in the field of international teaching should also be demonstrated.
