Bonnie Johansen-Werner

Bonnie Johansen-Werner (born July 19, 1952 ) is an American composer and music teacher .

Johansen-Werner studied music at Augustana College and Concordia University Chicago . Her teachers included Richard Hillert , Carl Schalk and Alice Parker . In addition, she completed a degree in theology at Garrett Theological Seminary at the University of Dubuque . She is organist at the First United Methodist Church in Lockport, Illinois, and Diaconal Minister of Music is in the service of organ and composition with Grace United Methodist Church (Naperville). She was McCosh Assistant Professor of Music for thirteen years at Upper Iowa University and is Composer in Residence at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois , teaching music theory , sight-reading , ear training, and composition .

As a composer, Johansen-Werner mainly performed with church music for choir and organ, but also with chamber music. Where Are Our Friends was premiered in 2010 by the Ames Children's Choir at Iowa State University , the Rondo Festival for wind instruments and organ in 2011 by the Joliet Junior College Brass Ensemble in St. Joseph Church in Joliet, the Variations on "Nun Danket" in 2011 in Slovak Majerka and In a French Village: Ancient Spirits 2012 at Joliet Junior College .
