Booklooker is an online marketplace for books , audio books , games , films and music . Against commission new and used items between dealers and buyers are taught.

history

Booklooker's website went online on October 1, 1999, initially for books only. CBooks Germany GmbH, which is the operator of the website today, was founded in 2000 together with campus2day AG, which no longer exists today. In mid-2002, a commission system was introduced for book sales that were previously completely free of charge.

In October 2004, the range was expanded to include sound carriers and films. Games have been available since January 2009, and the audio books that were previously assigned to books have been moved to a separate category.

The company currently has 10 permanent employees at its Düsseldorf location. Over 5000 orders are processed via Booklooker every day.

The Weltbild publishing group has held a 49% stake in cBooks Germany GmbH since 2007 . In 2014 booklooker took over the Munich used book platform Antiquario and the operation of the domain antiquario.de was discontinued.

The Booklooker offer is reflected as a Weltbild marketplace , as a Jokers book market and as a bücher.de marketplace.

concept

The concept is very similar to the platforms Antiquariat.de , ZVAB , AbeBooks , ILAB , Biblio. However, these were primarily developed by and for professional antiquarians , while at Booklooker private individuals can also offer, similar to eBay and amazon.com , which again lack the antiquarian approach. According to an interview from 2009, sales are generated equally by private providers and retailers.

Booklooker does not act itself and only makes its profit through a commission from sales ; Placement fees or other ongoing or fixed costs are not charged. The company is legally and commercially not involved in the transaction between buyer and seller and only acts as a message transmitter.

The company is currently only represented in Germany. The managing directors are the founders Jens Bertheau and Daniel Conrad.

To support the antiquarian trade, Booklooker has entered into various partnerships, for example, Booklooker offers are displayed on Weltbild.de and buecher.de, and vice versa, Weltbild.de , like buecher.de and jpc, offers its new goods via the Booklooker platform. Booklooker's holdings are listed worldwide by meta search engines for second-hand bookshops (example: Google product search ).

functionality

Seller and buyer conclude purchase transactions in their own name and for their own account. These transactions are mediated by Booklooker. In addition to the antiquarian information, the providers can upload a picture for each article as well as enter an extensive description and a list of keywords.

To sell

Sellers registered as private sellers can offer a maximum of 750 items for sale at the same time. This restriction was introduced in the course of the discussion about countermeasures against the abuse of warnings and is very controversial among users in terms of both authorization and effectiveness. You must be of legal age to use the offer .

An offer remains online until it is sold or the seller terminates it. After an order has been placed, the buyer and seller have the opportunity to rate each other and comment on the course of the business. The ratings and comments are publicly available.

There is also the option of setting up your own offer area similar to a personal shop, in which only your own offers are displayed.

to buy

A comprehensive classification system is offered for orientation for customers . Orientation in the offer is possible via the differentiated search engine . A found offer can serve as a sample for your own offer.

costs

Sellers pay a sales commission of 6.9 percent for all successful sales, but at least € 0.10 plus the applicable VAT.

Forum

Since September 2005, Booklooker has offered its members an online forum on all sorts of topics, help for newbies, a guide to "Selling books on the Internet", as well as discussions on books and an author forum.

Market mechanism

There are no automatic price adjustment mechanisms. However, the seller can display an overview of the booklooker market prices for a particular offer. By creating search orders, it is also possible to be notified of new offers that match your own price expectations.
