in the event of decommissioning:

The Borda (originally: Intrépide ) was a ship of the line of the French Navy and belonged to the Algésiras class .

construction

The Borda was built as an intrépide in the Rochefort Naval Arsenal . Work began in 1853 and lasted ten years. At the time of its completion, the Intrépide, originally designed as a pure sailing ship , was already technically out of date and had to be modernized before it was launched by adding a steam drive at a later date .

history

In 1866 and 1867, the Intrépide was used to return the French Expeditionary Force from Mexico . On July 16, 1881, the ship was involved in the capture of Sfax . In 1887 the Intrépide was withdrawn from active service and placed in reserve.

In 1890 the ship was by Jean-Charles de Borda in Borda renamed and served until 1914, the École Navale as a training ship . In 1921 the ship was scrapped in Cherbourg .
