Boring is an unincorporated village ( unincorporated community ) in Clackamas County , Oregon , United States . Boring is about 37 km southeast of central Portland , between the suburbs of Gresham and Clackamas . The place has about 8000 inhabitants.
history
The place was named after William H. Boring, an early resident of the area. Boring was a Union Army veteran who settled in Oregon after the Civil War . Boring died in 1932 at the age of 91 and was buried next to his wife in Damascus Pioneer Cemetery .
Boring was added to a land map in 1903 as Boring Junction . In the same year the post office opened under the name Boring . The name was also used by the railway line. 2005 targeted people of Boring for the place the status of a village on, a new model of local self-government in Oregon. However, after a polarizing debate, the proposal was narrowly rejected in a local referendum in 2006.
The name of the place seems unusual in English, as boring is also the English word for boring . To promote tourism in both villages, Boring entered into a playful partnership with Dull in Scotland in 2012 - dull can also be translated as boring . In 2013 the partnership was expanded to include the Australian administrative area of Bland Shire ; bland is another term for boring, uninteresting .
economy
Boring was known for its woodworking industry in the 20th century. The Portland Traction Company operated a now disused railway line from Portland via Gresham to Boring. In the 1950s, the railway companies Southern Pacific and Union Pacific took over a remaining route for freight traffic. In the meantime, a large part of the route has been converted into a long-distance hiking and cycling path known as the Springwater Corridor .
