Boris Anatoljewitsch Dubrowin ( Russian Борис Анатольевич Дубровин , English transcription Boris Dubrovin; born April 6, 1950 , †  March 19, 2019 ) was a Russian-Italian mathematician .

Dubrowin was a student of Sergei Petrowitsch Novikow at Lomonossow University in the 1970s , where he also taught afterwards. From the 1990s he was a professor at the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA) in Trieste .

Dubrowin dealt with exactly solvable systems in geometry and mathematical physics , for example with the connection of nonlinear exactly integrable partial differential equations (such as the Korteweg-de-Vries equation ) with theta functions on Riemann surfaces and Frobenius manifolds, their connection with Gromov-Witten -Invariants , reflection groups and the theory of singularities Dubrowin also investigated. With Novikow and AT Fomenko he wrote a three-volume textbook on modern methods of geometry and topology with a special emphasis on applications, the first volume of which appeared in Russia in 1979 and which was also translated into English.

In 1996 he gave one of the plenary lectures at the second European Congress of Mathematicians in Budapest (Reflection groups, quantum cohomologies and Painléve's equation) , in 2006 a plenary lecture at the International Congress for Mathematical Physics in Rio de Janeiro and in 1998 he was invited speaker at the ICM in Berlin ( Geometry and Analytic Theory of Frobenius Manifolds) .
