The central material are lighting elements, which is why Petrovsky is repeatedly seen as a light artist . He collects illuminated letters, illuminated letters, logos and graphemes, breaks them down into their individual parts and thus creates a repertoire of new combinations of combinable signifiers. An example of this type of object is the sign cluster iSmell, a recombination of the elements of the illuminated lettering of the drugstore chain Douglas , which was seen in 2016 in the military shelter belonging to the Salensteiner gallery The View . There are also works made of aluminum, installations made of kitchen appliances, Asian waving cats , bellows, cameras, printers, model trains and others.

Since 2005, the focus has been less on the complex object than on the situation made possible or triggered by the object.

In the Matrix ABC52 installation realized for the German Museum of Books and Writing in Leipzig , visitors can send SMS messages to the neon sign installation. "Luminous, geometric fragments are made up of characters that write the words and sentences of the message in light, letter by letter." The messages of the users are then immediately answered by messages generated by a chatbot . Direct questions and statements therefore receive random messages that the user can interpret as an answer .
